Emergency shelter tents erected in the Greek refugee camp
Requirements
After the devastating fire in the Moria refugee camp on Lesbos, Greece, HTS TENTIQ was contacted by a German aid organisation that urgently required a large number of emergency shelter tents. The fire on 8 September 2020 destroyed the camp on Lesbos – the largest refugee centre in Greece – and left thousands of refugees in a desperate situation.
The tents had to be urgently transported directly to the refugee camp in order to provide protection, assistance and accommodation.
The HTS TENTIQ Government Authority hotline was available 24/7, so the authority immediately got in touch with the HTS team. It was known that their request would be handled without delay. As the aid organisation had previously worked with HTS TENTIQ, it was already familiar with the level of service it would receive and the high-quality product range of emergency shelter tents.
Solution
The aid organisation had to respond quickly to the emergency situation in the refugee camp. As HTS TENTIQ had a large number of tents in stock, the company was able to deliver the required quantity of emergency shelter tents within one day of the order being placed. The request was made on Sunday and the first delivery left the factory the following day. This rapid response was made possible due to the large availability of stock.
The emergency shelter tents from HTS TENTIQ are designed for field camp situations such as the refugee camp; they can be deployed quickly and easily anywhere in the world.
- An average-sized emergency shelter tent takes about 15 minutes to be set up by three people. This can be done without prior knowledge or special equipment.
- The largest tent in the range can accommodate up to 20 beds and has a transport weight of approximately 172 kg.
- Emergency shelter tents are available in various sizes from 4.75 m to 5.90 m in width, and can be extended in length in 2.00 m increments. Customised options and additional sizes are available.
On this occasion, the aid organisation selected the following accommodation options:
- 99 emergency shelter tents (crew tents)
- 5.65 m & 5.90 m wide
- From 5.00 m to 8.00 m in length
- 1.70 m & 1.90 m side height
- Roof and wall coverings made of cotton/polyester
- Rafter spacing: 2.50 m & 2.00 m
- Ridge height: 2.50 m – 2.90 m
Benefits
Thanks to HTS TENTIQ’s rapid response, delivery of emergency shelter tents was completed within 24 hours, providing swift assistance and accommodation to some of the 13,000 refugees affected by the fire in the Moria camp. It is to be hoped that the emergency shelter tents will contribute to addressing the tragic situation faced by people who have been desperately seeking refuge and asylum for several years. Fortunately, we always maintain sufficient stock for exactly these circumstances in order to be able to respond quickly in the event of disasters.
