PVC tarpaulins: properties at a glance
A PVC tarpaulin is used in tent and temporary building production for covering the walls and roofs. PVC (polyvinyl chloride) is a plastic that is very robust. In addition, PVC offers a very high level of weather protection and is flame-retardant. With all these properties, PVC tarpaulins are ideally suited for use in tent construction.
Our PVC tarpaulins comply with international standards. They are of very high quality, which ensures durability and enables long-term use. Whether you want to use a tent with a PVC tarpaulin in summer, winter or all year round – with high-quality PVC this is not a problem at all.
PVC-Plane flicken: Alle Möglichkeiten im Überblick
Small cuts or holes in a PVC tarpaulin are annoying, but can be repaired well. It is important to act as quickly as possible and repair the PVC tent tarpaulin. As a general rule: the smaller the damage, the easier the repair.
To repair holes or cuts in a PVC tent tarpaulin, you have various options. With each of these methods, make sure to clean the damaged area beforehand and lay the tarpaulin flat.
We present the different repair options for your tent tarpaulin in detail:
1. Gluing
Small tears or holes in PVC tent tarpaulins can be repaired with a PVC tarpaulin patch and a special plastic adhesive. To do this, cut a piece from a PVC material that overlaps the tear or cut by about 5 cm. Open the adhesive tin and apply the adhesive to the PVC tarpaulin around the tear or hole using the integrated brush. The cut-to-size PVC piece is also coated with adhesive. Be sure to follow the safety instructions on the adhesive tin carefully. Depending on the product, the adhesive must be left to dry for a few minutes. Afterwards, press the PVC strip onto the damaged area. Finally, the material must be left in place until the adhesive has fully dried.
2. Self-adhesive PVC tape
The easiest method for repairing holes or tears in a party tent is to use our special repair accessories, the Repair & Fixing Set. To do this, cut a suitable piece from a PVC adhesive strip. This should overlap the damaged area by about 3 cm. This ensures that the damaged area is properly covered. Now remove the protective film from the underside of the self-adhesive pad. Apply it to the outside of the PVC tarpaulin and press it firmly into place. The optimal ambient temperature for this repair is between 5 and 15 degrees Celsius.
We have specifically developed this repair kit for our tent systems. The self-adhesive pad is therefore perfectly matched to our PVC tarpaulins. Another advantage of this method is that, thanks to the self-adhesive function, you do not need to work with adhesive. In many cases, too much or too little adhesive is used when repairing PVC tent tarpaulins, or drying times are not observed. All of this can result in the damaged area not being repaired optimally.
3. Sewing
Small tears in PVC tent tarpaulins can also be sewn. To do this, use special sewing thread that is suitable for plastics and therefore very robust. The needle must also be very strong, as PVC is a thick plastic fabric. Measure precisely how large the damaged area is. These measurements serve as a template to adapt the PVC tarpaulin patch exactly to the damaged area. Place the patch over the tear or cut. Sew along the edge with a straight stitch, ensuring that the seam is even. Secure the seam by backstitching so that it does not come undone at either the beginning or the end.
Instead of using a PVC patch, damaged areas can also be sewn directly. In this case, it is recommended to additionally coat the seam with a plastic adhesive afterwards, which gives the area even more stability.
4. Welding
For this repair method you will need a PVC patch in the appropriate size and a hot air gun. The patch should adequately cover the damaged area. Place the cut PVC patch over the tear or cut; this process can be carried out on both the inside and the outside of the PVC tent tarpaulin. The hot air gun should be set to a low to medium heat setting. Now hold the hot air gun over the patch and move it slowly back and forth. This causes the patch to bond to the tarpaulin of your party tent. Be careful not to overheat the PVC tent tarpaulin. Once the patch has been applied, allow it to cool thoroughly. Afterwards, check the area for strength.
Repairing damaged eyelets on the PVC tent tarpaulin
To repair a damaged eyelet on a PVC tent tarpaulin, a new eyelet must be fitted. This is not difficult, as you simply need the appropriate tools and materials. These include sew-free eyelets in the correct size, a hole punch and a hammer. An eyelet press can also be used.
Before starting the repair, you should clean the area where the eyelet will be fitted. Then use the hole punch and hammer to punch a hole in the PVC tent tarpaulin. Next, place the striking anvil under the tarpaulin and beneath the punched hole. The rivet, which is the part with the eyelet neck, is also placed under the PVC tarpaulin. The tarpaulin is then pulled over the eyelet neck. Now place the second part of the eyelet, the eyelet ring, and finally the striking pin on top. Then strike the pin firmly with the hammer. This connects the two parts of the eyelet together. As a precaution, check once more that the rivet and the ring are firmly joined.
If you need to repair or replace several eyelets, repeat this process for each eyelet.

Better safe than sorry: properly caring for and storing PVC tarpaulins
A high-quality party tent can last for several decades. The care and storage of PVC tarpaulins have a major influence on the service life of tents. We provide you with some tips to extend the lifespan of your tent:
- Clean the PVC tent tarpaulin while it is still assembled using a mild soap solution. Use a soft sponge to gently remove dirt. Avoid aggressive cleaning agents, as these can damage the tarpaulin. To remove oil or grease residues, you can use standard methylated spirits.
- Allow the party tent tarpaulin to dry completely before folding and storing it. Make sure that no liquid remains in the folds, as this can lead to mould.
- Depending on the size of the tent, it is best to store the PVC tarpaulin in specially designed storage bags or tarpaulin boxes. These optimally protect your PVC tarpaulins from dirt and moisture.
- When storing, ensure a dry and clean environment.
