Temporary Building Installations

For which industry do you need a temporary structure?

Temporary building installations are a remarkably fast and non-disruptive process; for a standard sized aluminium framed warehouse it is usually under a week. Existing concrete can generally be used without the need for any other ground-works and despite the speed and simplicity these structures can be in situ for ten years and beyond.

For those of you new to temporary buildings and the installation process, one of the best ways to understand it would be to see an installation first hand. This can be tricky to arrange though so the next best thing for a fast and thorough education on temporary building installations is to visit a fully operational building in situ.

Seeing a temporary building installation

Aluminium framed temporary buildings are modular units that are relatively simple but extremely durable in design. How they are constructed, the materials, components and fixings used, are tidy, secure and out of the way, but visible. This means an internal and external walk around the building with someone who can talk you through each aspect of the structure will give you a clear vision of the build process.

One of the things that is hard to understand is the quality and durability of aluminium temporary buildings. Some people refer to them as industrial tents or marquees, simply because they don’t have a traditional construction method. They are however far superior to a tent or marquee and can be manufactured to achieve the required British, European and Global building standards for structural integrity; basically the same requirement as a permanent building in terms of snow and wind loadings.

By visiting a building though the word tent will not be further from your mind. These are durable and robust warehouse structures that can and are used as an alternative solution to a more permanent building.

How to see an installation?

Many suppliers and manufacturers will arrange this on your behalf. And, the more happy clients they have the easier it will be (perhaps be suspicious of a supplier who isn’t able to provide this service!)

Many existing clients would be prepared to talk through their own experience of why they choose a temporary building, the installation process and crucially how the building has helped their business.

It probably wouldn’t always be possible to visit a building that exactly matches the specification you are considering, but as these structures are modular and fairly standard by design, it’s easy to get an idea of how a particular size and specification would work on your own site.

Essentially though it’s the installation that’s of interest when visiting a building and having a representative there from the supplier and also the existing client on hand to answer questions is an invaluable learning experience.

The process of a temporary building installation

The installation of a typical warehouse temporary building usually takes less than a week. Base plates are measured out and the frame uprights are fixed to each plate and then anchored down into the ground. The frame is then lifted into place section by section and the roof and wall cladding added. Doors, guttering and any other additional features will then be included.

Time-lapse videos are often also created to show temporary building installations and can be a valuable source of information and education.

Whether it’s by seeing a complete installation, visiting a finished building in situ, or viewing a video you will undoubtedly be surprised by the speed and simplicity of a temporary building installation combined with the quality and sturdiness of the end product.
