Temporary building as a fire service building at the airport

Requirements

A major airline required a vehicle hall to expand its fire-fighting capacity at an airport.

A new contract and the resulting increase in passenger numbers meant that safety regulations required an expansion of the airport’s fire-fighting vehicle fleet. A larger building was needed to accommodate the additional fire engines.

The airline considered a permanent building, but due to the short-term conclusion of the new contract and the rising passenger numbers, there was not enough time for this. Although the customer was aware of temporary buildings as a time-saving option, they were unsure whether this type of building could provide all the functions of a permanent fire service station, in particular the certified doors required for this purpose.

Solution

The partner commissioned with the project quickly became aware of HTS TENTIQ as a leading provider with the capabilities and experience in the manufacture of such customised buildings.

As the building was to be constructed on airport premises, the site was initially fenced off to comply with applicable safety regulations.

The manufactured, delivered and assembled temporary building had the following features:

  • 15.00 m width x 20.00 m length and an eaves height of 5.20 m
  • Double-skin thermal roof membranes
  • Insulated walls made of steel composite panels
  • 3 staff doors
  • 4 certified doors for fire service buildings with a comprehensive safety mechanism, alarm, and the required rapid opening mechanism
  • External gutters and downpipes
  • Structural analysis in accordance with site-specific calculations
  • Installation time – 5 days

Benefits

  • The airline was able to respond quickly and thereby ensure that the requirements of the new contract were met.
  • The rapid implementation was achieved through the use of a temporary building with customer-specific modifications, including certified doors for fire service vehicle stations from HTS TENTIQ, the leading manufacturer in the industry.
  • After the company was able to see for itself what temporary buildings are capable of, this type of structure is now also to be used in the construction of a new terminal.
